Allison Coonc is the Elders Department Director for the Samish Indian Nation in Anacortes, Washington. In her role, she is the Title VI Director overseeing the programs for elder and caregiver support services, including the Veterans Program. The programs focus on participants’ health and well-being by preserving cultural practices and traditional ways, providing activities for social engagement, promoting educational resources, conducting assessments and home visits, and wellness checks.
New to the field of Brain Health, Allison sees a need to increase Dementia and Alzheimer’s awareness and education for the Samish Indian Nation. To broaden the scope of the Brain Health Initiative’s work, the IA2 Resource Library has been a proven tool for guiding one-on-one conversations and providing group educational presentations for elders, caregivers, and veterans.
