Dustin Cozad, MHR (Apache Tribe of Oklahoma)
Elder Justice Associate
Dustin serves the International Association for Indigenous Aging, as an Elder Justice Associate. He is of Kiowa descent and an enrolled member of the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma. He currently resides in Norman, Oklahoma with his wife Dr. Ponka-We Victors-Cozad and daughter Ruby. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Studies from Bacone College and a Master’s of Human Relations Degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Dustin has served in various leadership positions in his tribe and played an integral role in developing programs and polices to keep tribal members safe during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. His work as a tribal leader focuses on promoting economic and community development with an emphasis on cultural preservation.
He was brought up with the teachings of his traditional grandparents who taught him the importance of culture and the obligation to care for and protect the elderly in the tribe. His compassion and empathy for Indigenous elders is what led him to this field of work. He continues to be a strong advocate and voice for the rights and protection of our most vulnerable citizens.
