IA2 Engages 17 Tribal Members / Affiliates in This Week’s Dementia Friends Info Session

In conjunction with our amazing partners and Dementia Friends Master Trainers from the University of Nevada, Reno IA2 was pleased to host the first virtual Dementia Friends for American Indian and Alaska Native communities information session and Champions training this week. Though Dementia Friends is a global movement, the IA2 version of the USAging program has been specifically adapted for American Indian and Alaska Native people together with representatives from tribal and Alaska Native communities.

IA2 was granted a license by USAging that enables them to work directly with tribal and Alaska Native communities across the country as an option if they don’t have a state Dementia Friends licensee, or if they prefer to work with an organization focused specifically on American Indian and Alaska Native populations. Ideally, tribes and tribal entities will choose to engage with both state licensees and IA,so they benefit from state licensee access to local and regional resources, community networks, and information.

  • Twenty three participants became official “Dementia Friends”
  • Participants were affiliated with 17 tribes

Highlights from a pre and post session evaluation:

  • 100% of participants thought the Master Trainer from UNR did a great job
  • 100% found value and relevance to their work
