NCEA Blog #2 This Month … Where Does Ageism Fit Into Conversations About Elder Abuse in Tribal Communities?

As part of Native American Heritage month and as a means of sharing findings from IA2’s recent needs assessment of tribal providers’ experiences with screening and management of elder abuse, the National Center for Elder Abuse (NCEA) allowed IA2 to take over their blog for the month.

The second installment of the blog series, focused on discussing important findings from the final project report is written by Katie Block of the National Center on Abuse in Later Life (NCALL). Block discusses the issue of Ageism, which wasn’t a theme directly introduced in report findings. The lack of discussion of the concept of ageism itself speaks to the implicit biases that may exist among health care providers in their work with older victims of violence, abuse and exploitation.
