June 2021 – Resource Center in Action Update
Welcome to the first American Indian and Alaska Native Brain Health Resource Center E-Newsletter from the International Association for Indigenous Aging! The Resource Center is committed to advancing brain health among American Indians and Alaska Natives by sharing relevant information, research, and resources with you.
The International Association for Indigenous Aging received funding in July 2020 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to support this initiative. It immediately began assembling a world-class majority Native Executive Committee and Advisory Group. Our members bring a wealth of expertise and passion to the table and help to guide our resource development and cultivation. This linked map provides a visual of our Advisory Group’s geographical reach and content scope.
The American Indian and Alaska Native Brain Health Resource Center is committed to building partnerships with community key players acrossthe country to advance brain health and work
towards promoting health practices that reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia among American Indians and Alaska Natives. Since launching, Jolie Crowder, the Senior Project Director for the Resource Center, has met with content experts and native elders across the country to help inform our approach.
We look forward to sharing, cultivating, and developing relevant brain health resources with our partners and distributing them to the community at large.
As part of our commitment to advancing brain health, we are in the process of updating the International Association for Indigenous Aging website that will soon feature an American Indian and Alaska Native Brain Health Resource Library. Our new Public Health Communications Associate, Mary Ann Franks, will help guide content generation, and we are grateful that she has joined the team.
