IA2‘s Board Treasurer, R. Turner Goins, Ph.D., had her article featured in the American Society on Aging’s Generations Today. The article, “Aging in Indigenous Communities: An Overview” the Indigenous aging process and how it varies between American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Goins discusses the current and projected number of AI/AN elders and where they live. She proceeds to discuss how elders are typically supported within their communities, stating that “support for aging AI/ANs primarily is provided by the family”.
Goins emphasizes the diversity that is seen between AI/AN communities, and that each tribal entity deserved to be understood individually. To read the full article click the link below;
